The Walk For My Brother's Table

These are some pictures from our 23 rd Annual Walkathon for Hunger. Here's a little bit of history behind this My Brother's Table tradition. The walk was started before My Brother's Table was officially opened. The goal was to raise awareness about the extreme hunger in our area and most importantly to raise funds for MBT's soon-to-be-opened soup kitchen on Lynn 's Union Street .

Within a few years the walk was big—very big. There were many hundreds of supporters of all ages marching through the streets of Lynn after collecting sponsors for the Table. One year, hockey great Bobby Orr led the walkers. Another year the walk was featured in USA Today as one of the “50 Best Things To Do” that weekend.

Gradually the walk has decreased in size literally and figuratively (the walk is now three miles). On the upside, some MBT supporters have been walking—and collecting sponsors all or most years. Some walkers started as members of the high school team now bring their own kids to walk. You can walk as an individual or with a team. It is a fun event too. There are gift certificates, food, juices and prizes for everyone. There is special recognition for the team and individuals who bring in the most sponsorship dollars.
